What is rotocast bronze for?

Bushings and bearings, almost entirely. C932 (SAE 660) bearing bronze is the alloy a steel shaft wants to run against: it machines easily, holds oil in its structure, and wears gracefully instead of seizing. Pillow blocks, pivot bushings, wear rings, thrust washers, and the repair part for whatever's squealing on the farm equipment: this is that rack.

Why buy tube instead of solid bar?

Because the hole's already in it. Rotocast tube is cored bushing stock: pick an OD and ID close to your finished bushing and most of the boring is done before the chuck spins. And since we sell by the inch, you buy the slice, not the stick. As of June 2026, a 1″ slice of 1-3/4″ x 1″ C932 tube runs $24.77 CAD, against $214.34 for a full 12″. One bushing job, one bushing's worth of bronze.

C932 or C954?

C932 for bearings against steel shafts, which is most jobs. C954 aluminum bronze is the step up when the load gets heavy or the environment gets hostile: it's markedly stronger and harder, at home in marine hardware, wear plates, and gears. It also pushes back more at the lathe, so don't buy the upgrade unless the job asks for it.

What fits a standard shaft?

Match the tube ID just under your shaft size and bore to fit: a 1″ shaft starts from tube with a 1″ ID and finishes at your running clearance. If you'd rather we check the combination before you order, send the counter your shaft size and the housing bore and we'll point at the right stock.

Questions fréquentes

Which bronze should I use for bushings?
C932 bearing bronze, almost always. It machines easily, holds oil, and wears gracefully against steel shafts. Save C954 aluminum bronze for heavy loads and marine duty.
Why is the tube sold in short slices?
Because a bushing only needs a bushing's worth. Cored tube with the right OD and ID means most of your boring is done, and buying a 1″ or 2″ slice beats paying for a foot of bronze you'll never use.
Is bronze better than brass for bearings?
Yes. Brass is for machining fittings and decorative work; bearing bronze is engineered to run against steel under load with lubrication. Different jobs, different racks.
Can you cut bronze tube to length?
Yes, every piece is cut to your length at ±1/8″, free. Type the length in inches on the product page and the price shows right away.
