About A653 steel

A653 is hot-dip galvanized steel sheet: carbon sheet with a zinc coating bonded on for rust resistance. It's the sheet for parts that live outdoors or in damp air without paint, like brackets, panels, ductwork, and enclosures. The zinc takes the corrosion so the steel underneath doesn't.

What is galvanized sheet for?
Outdoor and damp-environment sheet metal that you don't want to paint: ductwork, panels, brackets, enclosures. The zinc coating sacrifices itself to protect the steel. Mind the cut edges and any welds, since those expose bare steel.
