About 50W steel

50W is the higher-strength structural grade, CSA's 350W, with about 50 ksi minimum yield against 44W's 44. It's what an S355 callout points to in Canada. Reach for it when the design needs more yield than ordinary 44W mild steel and your engineer has signed off on the grade.

When do I need 50W instead of 44W?
When the structure needs the extra yield, about 50 ksi against 44, usually on engineered work that specs it. For general gates, frames, and brackets, 44W is the standard. An S355 drawing is a 50W/350W conversation with your engineer.
