About C932 bronze

C932 is bearing bronze, the bronze trade's SAE 660: roughly 83% copper, 7% tin, 7% lead, and 3% zinc. It was engineered to live against a rotating steel shaft, with the lead smearing into a built-in lubricant film and the bronze staying softer than the shaft on purpose, so the cheap bushing wears instead of the expensive shaft. We stock it as rotocast tube and round bar, sized for bushing blanks.

Read the full brass vs bronze guide
Why are bushings bronze instead of brass?
Because bearing bronze was built for it. C932's lead smears across the running surface as a lubricant film, grit embeds in the soft lead instead of scoring the shaft, and the bronze wears in place of the costly part. Brass against a loaded spinning shaft just wears out.
How do you buy rotocast bronze?
By the tube, not the foot. Pick the tube whose bore and wall bracket your finished bushing, order a 1 or 2 inch slice, and machine it to final size. It's cast dense and uniform, which is what makes it good bushing stock.
