About C954 bronze

C954 is aluminum bronze, copper with aluminum and iron instead of tin: strong, hard, and built for heavy loads and marine wear. At about 85,000 psi tensile it runs roughly double C932, and it grows a tough aluminum-oxide skin that shrugs off salt water, which earns it gears, worm wheels, pump parts, and marine hardware. It machines harder than bearing bronze, so it wants rigid setups and sharp carbide.

Should I use C932 or C954 bronze?
C932 bearing bronze for bushings and wear sleeves on a shaft: softer, very machinable, self-lubricating. C954 aluminum bronze for heavy structural loads and marine duty: much stronger and salt-resistant, but harder to machine. Match the grade to the load.
Does aluminum bronze resist salt water?
Yes, well. C954 carries essentially no zinc to lose and grows a tough aluminum-oxide skin, so it survives where high-zinc brass would dezincify and crumble. That's why it earns pump and marine hardware.
