Description

Stainless Steel Pipe 316 is a high-performance pipe made from 316-grade stainless steel, known for its superior corrosion resistance, particularly in environments exposed to chlorides and other aggressive chemicals. This pipe is ideal for marine, chemical, and pharmaceutical applications, where both strength and resistance to corrosion are essential. It is widely used in industries that demand high durability and reliability, including food processing, water treatment, and offshore construction. The pipe’s excellent weldability and machinability make it versatile for various fabrication processes.

About 316 stainless steel

316 is 304 with 2-3% molybdenum added, and that one ingredient is what defends the surface against chlorides, the salt-family chemistry that pits stainless. It's the grade for anything within reach of salt: wharf and boat hardware, pool and hot tub fittings, fish-plant equipment, parts washed with de-icing salt all winter. Marine and chemical environments are 316's whole reason to exist.

Is 316 worth the upcharge over 304?
Near salt, yes. Budget roughly 10-50% over 304 depending on shape. On a small piece of boat hardware the upcharge is a coffee, and replacing a pitted 304 part twice is the expensive option. Away from salt, 304 is the smart buy.
What makes 316 'marine grade'?
The molybdenum. It resists the chloride pitting that salt water and salt air cause, so 316 holds up on docks and boats where 304 would tea-stain and pit.
